Former West Coast Eagles AFL Player, Glen Jakovich Says ‘Give Me 10’ For Mental Health

Glen J Mental Health ambassador - Steel Blue

Steel Blue Ambassador and former West Coast Eagles AFL great, Glen Jakovich praised Steel Blue for the success of its Blue Boots initiative.

He shared of his playing days and the struggles of players not being able to speak up. “I remember seeing guys struggle back in the day and we would say, sort yourself out, get your form back and get your health back. Thinking about that now, it was wrong for us not to reach out, chat and  get him the help he needed.

“In footy clubs we always hear ‘time to man up’ but this is about more than just the footy field, it’s about manning up about your mental health. Don’t suffer in silence, call someone today and start the conversation. Together, let’s Boot the Blues.

“I’ve noticed guys are looking out for each other more than before. A 10-minute conversation can go a long way for someone who is struggling with mental health. There are so many avenues that we can direct people to, male or female. Speak to a doctor, the boss, or access support and online information from fundamental organisations like Beyond Blue.”

The Beyond Blue Support Service can be reached on 1300 224 636 or via email and webchat at www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/get-immediate-support

Steel Blue has now sold over 38,000 pairs of men’s and women’s Blue Boots, supporting over 6,250 contacts to reach the Beyond Blue Support Service and providing Aussies with 24/7 access to a trained mental health professional.
