Reduce your risk of punctures with
Steel Blue Penetration Resistant outsoles

From mine sites to construction to the factory floor, tradespeople need to stay on their toes. Hazards are part of the job. One misstep can have serious consequences.

Safety is in our DNA at Steel Blue, which is why we created a range of Penetration Resistant work boots for men and women featuring puncture-resistant outsoles.

What are penetration-resistant work boots?

Penetration-resistant safety boots are designed to protect hardworking men and women from accidental injury. Especially popular in mining, manufacturing, warehousing and construction, these boots have a tough component in the sole that reduces the risk of puncture.

Steel Blue Penetration Resistant outsoles offer complete protection against hazards like:

  • Nails
  • Glass
  • Metal shards
  • Wood splinters
  • Stones
  • Tools and blades

We add a super tough steel or composite layer into the sole for safety and peace of mind.

Who needs penetration-resistant work boots?

The term “construction boots” is often synonymous with “penetration-resistant boots”. But there are plenty more trades that need the protection and peace of mind provided by high-quality Steel Blue Penetration Resistant safety footwear:

  • Glassmaking and installation, where sharp shards can easily go undetected
  • Manufacturing, where metal shards and tools can end up on the ground
  • Mining, especially when working on rocky terrain, in construction, during a shutdown, or in the maintenance team
  • Agriculture and landscaping, to guard against blades, chainsaws, axes and anything hidden in overgrown grass
  • Demolition, where hazards are everywhere

Lightweight work boots with the added protection of Penetration Resistant soles help prevent serious injuries and keep hardworking men and women safe.

How do they work?

Penetration resistance comes from a reinforced component built into the boot’s midsole. This component is typically made of tough steel or lightweight non-conductive composite.

Sharp objects are stopped in their tracks, keeping the wearer safe from puncture, infection and injury.

In addition, Steel Blue Penetration Resistant boots are fitted with Nitrile® outsoles, Trisole® Comfort Technology and Ortho Rebound® footbeds. The result is exceptional protection, heat resistance to 300°C, water resistance, whole-body support and guaranteed comfort

How safe are Steel Blue Penetration Resistant work boots?

The steel or composite plates in Steel Blue Penetration Resistant boots use similar materials as our industry-leading toe protection. For men and women in construction, that means:

  • 1,100 Newton force protection
  • Compliant with
    • Australian and New Zealand Safety Footwear Standard AS 2210.3
    • Compliant with International and European Safety Footwear Certification EN ISO 20345
    • Compliant with American Safety Footwear Certification ASTM F2413
  • 6-month manufacturer’s warranty
  • Comfort and peace of mind

Tip: 1,100 Newton is equivalent to the force generated by someone weighing 80kg stepping on a 4.5 mm diameter nail.

International safety standards for puncture-resistant work boots with steel plates (EN ISO 20345:2022) were updated in June 2022. Steel Blue Penetration Resistant soles already met the criteria in the updated guidelines. Still, we conducted plenty of testing to ensure we’re outfitting tradies with exceptional equipment.
