Giving breast cancer the boot

Knowing the signs to look for is especially important.

With 1 in 7 women being diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime, knowing the signs to look for is especially important.

Steel Blue donates $10 from every pair of Pink and Purple boots directly to Breast Cancer Care WA, an organisation that provides specialised breast care nursing, counselling, financial and practical assistance to those affected by breast cancer and their loved ones.

Steel Blue’s fundraising range of work boots includes the Pink and Purple Southern Cross® Zip Ladies work boot. Specially designed for women’s feet, the vibrant colours also offer a potential starting point for conversations about breast cancer awareness.

Our Pink & Purple Boots have raised over $2,000,000.

Since 2007, our Pink & Purple Boots have raised over $2,000,000. These funds have helped Breast Cancer Care WA create several vital education initiatives, including:

  • A youth education program that’s aligned with the curriculum and designed to reduce fear, raise awareness and highlight available support services

  • Online campaigns to improve the community’s knowledge of breast cancer, dispel outdated myths and teach people how to be breast aware

  • A PhD research project to research and develop a leading national online community that supports people affected by breast cancer, particularly those in regional and remote areas

Supporting people affected by breast cancer.

The money we raise funds a Breast Cancer Care WA staff member who supports people affected by breast cancer.

Meanwhile, the packaging for Steel Blue’s Pink & Purple Boots includes a shower tag diagram that highlights the importance of giving yourself a regular check and shows you how to conduct one for yourself.

Thanks to our partnership with Breast Cancer Care WA, we’re helping to raise funds and awareness of the most common invasive cancer in Australia.

Honouring Dr Ros Worthington: Pink & Purple Boots Supporting Breast Cancer Care

BCCWA was started in response to Dr Ros’ own experience with breast cancer and has become one of the State’s most successful charities. Dr Ros also established the Make-A-Wish and Love Angel Foundations, along with spearheading the HelpME campaign with Lifeline WA.

Her acknowledgements and awards include receiving the Order of Australia Medal, State Finalist Australian of the Year in 2007 & 2009 and Ernst & Young Social Entrepreneur of the Year 2006 for the WA Region.

It was at the Ernst & Young Awards that the partnership between Steel Blue and Breast Cancer Care WA started.

“From the minute we met Dr Ros, we were inspired and wanted to do what we could to support her and BCCWA. This is where the BCCWA range was born and 18 years later, it has helped raise over $2M to provide breast care nursing, practical, mental health and financial support to those impacted by breast cancer, and their loved ones,” said Ross Fitzgerald, Steel Blue Founding Director and Sales Director – APAC.

“Dr Ros was a guiding light of care, respect and integrity; an outstanding example for us all. It is a true honour we can continue her legacy through the Pink and Purple boots initiative to support the amazing work BCCWA do for the community.
