Steel Blue Ambassador and former Australian and Queensland State of Origin rugby league footballer, Mick Hancock shares his top mental health well-being tips.

Mick believes that it’s important to know who you are and it’s okay to be reliant on someone which is something that he has learnt on and off the field. “It’s about being the best person you can be.”

Mick says “give me ten is my top mental health tip to myself and those around me. A $10 donation goes a long way to help someone in need, a ten-minute conversation can save a life. Ten minutes of exercise can help me reenergise and focus, even ten quick push-ups can be enough to refocus, take a breath and get your mind in the right state.”

“We see our colleagues every day and get to know them. Look for signs if you think that something doesn’t seem right or if you think that your workmate or teammate needs help. If you realise something doesn’t seem quite right, check up on them by starting a conversation. It doesn’t have to be a long chat, just a quick check in could make a difference. I like to talk to my Mum every day. She lives alone and I understand she can get lonely, and my daily phone call makes a difference to her” says Mick.

“It’s so important to recognise the signs and make time to have a conversation with someone.”
