Steel Blue celebrates $2M raised for Breast Cancer Care

Steel Blue proudly supports women in trades, both on and off the job site. This is reflected in the sales of Steel Blue’s pink and purple boots raising over $2M for Breast Cancer Care.
The Breast Cancer Care (BCC) partnership has been running for over 18 years. Through this long-standing partnership that includes the annual What a Pair campaign and Breast Cancer Care range of ladies work boots initiatives, we continue to raise awareness amongst women in trades about the importance of regular breast checks whilst raising vital funds for BCC.
How the funds support the community
$10 from every pair of our Southern Cross® Zip Ladies boots in Pink and Purple is donated directly to Breast Cancer Care.
“Steel Blue is incredibly proud to commemorate the $2M fundraising milestone in support of BCC. For 18 years, our partnership has helped provide free-of-charge breast cancer nursing, counselling, financial and practical support through BCC,” Peter Bell, CEO Steel Blue.
“At BCC we experienced a 60% increase over the last 5 years in the number of clients we help growing from 1,200 to 1,900 demonstrating a great need for our services and the importance of BCC” Max Clarke, CEO Breast Cancer Care WA.
The initiative goes beyond raising funds for those impacted by breast cancer.
“Our breast cancer care range of boots helps create more conversations, awareness and encourage people to conduct regular breast checks through the shower tag included in every pair of pink and purple boots sold; the impact of this is immeasurable,” says Peter.
“Through the combination of the Steel Blue boot fundraising initiative and the What a Pair campaign, we are able to support more people in the community as we see an increase in demands during a particularly challenging economic time,” says Max.
The stats
The National Breast Cancer Foundation figures show that 58 Australians are diagnosed with breast cancer every day. Of the 58, three of these people will be young women.
Australian men are also impacted, with close to one in 550 diagnosed with breast cancer in WA.
“1 in 7 women will receive a breast cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. In WA alone, 5 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every single day” says Max.

Honouring a legacy
In honour of Ros Worthington, the founder of BCC, Steel Blue’s Southern Cross® Zip Ladies boots in Pink and Purple will be named the Ros Worthington.
“Dr Ros was a guiding light of care, respect and integrity; an outstanding example for us all. It is a true honour we can continue her legacy through the Pink and Purple boots initiative to support the amazing work BCC do for the community. You’ll find Ros’ name on every pair of these boots rolling out shortly,” says Ross Fitzgerald, Steel Blue Founding Director and Sales Director – APAC.
Empowering women on site
Steel Blue has recently partnered with Empowered Women in Trades (EWIT) to further advocate for support available to women and non-binary people wanting to pick up a trade, and the importance of regular breast checks.
“Steel Blue’s ethos to empower women with the right work boots, combined with the BCC range, aligns with EWIT perfectly. They walk the walk and talk the talk; something we are incredibly proud to support through the What a Pair campaign. Together, we are making a big impact for our tradies,” says Melinda Davies, General Manager EWIT.
