Customer Support

Wondering which boot is right for you or about our warranties? We've answered our most asked questions for you here.

Q: What type of toe cap do I need?

We have two main toe cap options – steel and composite. We also do a non-safety plastic toecap, which does not provide safety benefits. All of our non-safety options can be found here.

Q: Is a steel toe cap stronger than a composite toe cap?

Both are very similar in strength, the steel and composite caps used by Steel Blue pass the Australian, European and American safety standards.

Steel caps provide more cut resistance, but stay deformed more than composite caps after impact or compression.

Q: Are my shoes anti-static?

Our anti-static boots are denoted on the license label by any of the following symbols ‘A’, ‘O1, ‘O2’, ‘O3’, ‘S1’, ‘S2’ or ‘S3’. The electrical resistance of footwear should be tested at the beginning of each shift as the resistance can deteriorate with sole wear and moisture.

Q: What is the difference between anti-static and electrical hazard boots?

The type of boot you need depends on the work you do. The information here helps you make the safest choice.

Q: What safety standards do Steel Blue boots adhere too?

All Steel Blue boots with a safety toe cap are independently certified to three major international safety standards:

✓ Australian/NZ Standard AS/NZS 2210.3
✓ American Standard ASTM F2413
✓ European Standard EN ISO20345

All Steel Blue boots with out a safety toe cap are independently certified to two major international safety standards:

✓ Australian/NZ Standard AS/NZS 2210.5
✓ European Standard EN ISO20347

Q: What type of sole do I need?

We have two sole options – TPU and Nitrile. Please navigate to this page to help you choose an option best suited for your job requirements.

Q: What soles are better for welders?

nitrile outsole is better for wedlers as the nitrile outsole will guard against short term (60 second) hot contact with welders slag.

Q: What is your lightest boot?

Composite styles such as the Canberra and Torquay are approximately 20% lighter than our steel cap options the Argyle and Argyle Zip.

Q: Which Steel Blue boots have penetration resistant sole?

All of our boots with a penetration resistant midsole can be found here.

Q: Do you still manufacture in Australia?

We are a WA born and bred brand. Our products are produced both in Australia and our dedicated factory in Indonesia.

Q: Will a Black boot be hotter to wear than a Wheat one?

There is no difference in the colours due to the Baltico® lining used in our boots. The Baltico® lining is designed to wick perspiration away from the foot which in turn causes the foot to stay cool and dry.

Q: How do your zip attachments work?

Please find video below on how to use our zip attachment available for our Portland boot.

Q: Are Steel Blue boots based on AUS/EURO/UK or US sizing?

All Steel Blue boots are based on the AUS sizing system. Please find size conversion chart below:

Q: Do you sell wide fitting boots?

We offer half sizes, which provides extra width without increasing the length of the boot.

Q: What if a female wants to purchase a men’s boot?

If you wish to purchase a boots in men’s sizing, ladies will generally be two sizes down from their usual size e.g. a lady wearing size 7 shoes will fit into a size 5 men’s boot.

Visit a local distributor to check your size on a Steel Blue foot-measuring device. We recommend you always try on boots before purchasing them.

Q: How do I look after my suede boots?

For Nubuck or Suede leathers, clean by brushing off loose dirt using a Suede brush (suede brushes have fine brass bristles).

Q: How should I store my Steel Blue boots that I’m not wearing currently?

Do not store in cupboard or dark/humid conditions. When you are not wearing your Steel Blues (if this happens) try and do the below:
- Store your boots in a cool dry spot
- If your boots are stored away for extended periods how about showing them some love by taking them for a walk twice a month to keep them fit and healthy

Q: What can I do to help protect my new boots leather?

Clean any dirt, mud or contaminates off after each shift with soft brush or damp cloth. Use dubbin, Steel Blue renovating polish or water proofer before use. Do not over wet and do not force dry.

Q: Can I stick my soles back on?

All Steel Blue products use a direct injection process to attach the soles. If the sole somehow becomes detached it is recommended to replace your boots.

Q: Why are my soles falling apart?

If boots are stored in dark / humid conditions for a prolonged period the sole compound can deteriorate. It is better to wear your boots regularly.

Q: How can I make my boots last longer?

Dubbin and boot polish will extend the life of the leather and help the boots look newer for longer. It will repel water and keep the leather from drying out in warmer conditions.

Q: How can I dry my wet boots?

To dry wet boots remove footbed stuff with newspaper place in a warm position away from direct sun or direct radiated heat.

Q: How do I stop wearing out the leather at the front of my boots, exposing the toe cap?

On your next pair, try a Steel Blue boot with a bump cap. Our bump caps are designed to protect the leather on the toe from wearing to expose the steel cap. This will stop premature wearing on your boots and allow you to wear them for longer before replacing.

You can find all of our boots with a bump cap here.
